I crave this salad. All the time. I actually made my husband take me out to eat at Applebee's just so I could have this salad. We live an hour away from the nearest Applebee's. What a good sport. But I decided to find a recipe to it so I could have it whenever I wanted and also save money. I did it! I found it on Top Secret Recipes and it tastes exactly like the real thing. Trust me. I am a bit of a food snob so I know my stuff. I hope I've made one of you just as ecstatic as I now am. This makes enough dressing for 3-4 people. Simply adjust the salad and chicken amount to fit your needs. I like to make the dressing and keep it in the fridge and use it on individual salads.
Oriental Dressing
3 Tbsp. honey
1 1/2 Tbsp. Rice Vinegar (the white one)
1/4 c. Mayonnaise
1 tsp. Grey Poupon Dijon mustard
1/8 tsp. Sesame oil
Blend together all ingredients in a small bowl with a whisk or mixer. Refrigerate while you work on the salad.
Salad
2 pieces of Tyson's Crispy Chicken Strips
bagged salad with romaine lettuce, carrots, and cabbage
bagged coleslaw cabbage
1 Tbsp. sliced almonds
1/4 c. Chow Mein noodles
Bake the chicken strips according to the package directions. At the last few minutes, add the almonds on the pan that the chicken is on so they can get toasted. Remove and cool. Cut up the chicken.
Mix together some of each of the lettuce and coleslaw. Top with cut up chicken, almonds & noodles. Drizzle the dressing on top.

OHMYGOODNESS!!! This salad is my most favorite dish at Applebee's! And now I can make it myself?! How awesome. I'm so glad you shared. Your photos are stunning too. I linked up my mini brownie treats at TTT. Thanks again for hosting!
ReplyDeleteThat salad looks so good! I am all about salads right now:-) I think that is so sweet that your hubby would take you that far for salad...but that is cool the top secret recipe tastes just the same. Better for the gas tank:-)
ReplyDeleteI love that recipe at Applebees. I'm especially excited to be able to make the dressing. Thanks for sharing this.
ReplyDeleteIt's always the dressing that is the key, isn't it? If the dressing ain't good on a salad, then nothing will taste right. This one sounds so good. I love these secret restaurant recipes..LOL.
ReplyDeleteThanks for this - I got it bookmarked!
LOVE it! This is one of my favorites salads for sure....thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful looking salad. Great pictures. This is my kind of salad.
ReplyDeleteOh that dressing sounds good!! You are making me crave a chicken salad with breaded chicken. I have a chinese chicken salad at my site you would probably love (check my recipe page)...but the chicken is not breaded. But the dressing IS So good!
ReplyDeleteThanks for hosting! I'm sharing an EASY stovetop chicken parm pasta. I love that I don't have to heat my house up in the summer, and also that it's a FRUGAL meal. I only use 2 chicken breasts to feed my family of 5 with leftovers!
Have a GREAT week!!

I made this salad the other night. It did not disappoint...we loved it!! My husband, who puts ranch on everything, said it's his new favorite dressing. Thanks so much for sharing!
ReplyDeleteI am so thankful I found your site. I made this for a large group, my family, some that don't like salads too much, there were 10 of us, and I made a big batch and there wasn't even a piece of cabbage or almond left in the bowl. It was sooo good. Then just today I ordered Applebee's version of it, and it didn't even come close to tasting as good as the one I made. I love this recipe and thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteThis salad was wonderful, I had never had Applebee's because I always get the Santa Fe Chicken Salad (how about a recipe for that). I really enjoyed the Oriental Chicken Salad and so did my husband, he especially liked the dressing. So easy using frozen chicken. This one is a keeper. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteSheila- I found that recipe for you here:

But you have to buy it for 79 cents. Thanks for your comment. The dressing really makes the salad, doesn't it?
